Meet our Trustees

Our Trustees are responsible for the governance activities associated with the Western Bay Museum. We have been fortunate to have sustainable interest in the trustee roles, with a wealth of local knowledge, skills and experience at the fore.

Kia ora, Ko wai au? Who am I?

I am born and raised in Athenree, Waihi Beach, Otawhiwhi. What defines me is my people; from the past, present and future, I come from the hapu of Te Whānau ā Tauwhao Ki Otawhiwhi and another side of me comes from Brisbane, Australia. I always find myself returning to our Taiao and work in the conservation space. I have studied in Maori Art and Weaving.

My hope is to walk between worlds -  Past, Present and Future with Intention and balance, using the tools I have to support the health of our environment and our people.

“He aha te mea nui? He Tangata, He Tangata, He Tangata.

What is the most precious of this world? It is the people.”

Ros Moffatt

Trustee

Ros arrived in Katikati at the start of 2023. Her association with Western Bay Museum started immediately when she attended the first commemoration of Waitangi Day by the museum. Ros told those attending the second Waitangi Day commemoration that she first arrived with husband Vic in Aotearoa on Waitangi Day, and the Treaty of Waitangi is one of the reasons they decided to emigrate to New Zealand.

Ros started volunteering at the museum in January 2025, and on her first day was interviewed for the local newspaper, again about Waitangi Day! She has been involved in front of house, research, demonstrating to school groups, and supporting museum events. She joined the Board at the end of that year.

Prior to arrival in Katikati, Ros was the clinical lead of hospital optometry departments, taught and researched at universities, and led large-population eye screening programmes in the UK, Australia, and New Zealand.

When not at the museum, Ros volunteers on Katikati Red Cross Disaster Welfare Support Team, with Hato Hone St John as a Community Educator, and for a couple more organisations. She enjoys exploring Aotearoa, and the challenges presented by her garden and attempting to stay fit.
