Ambassador of Ireland Visits Katikati

A new relationship emerges as this week Mayor James Denyer hosted the Ambassador of Ireland, Jane Connolly, with an introduction to Katikati.  After lunch at The Talisman and a visit to Western Bay Museum we were greeted with a very warm traditional welcome at Te Rereatukahia Marae, Ngāi Tamawhariua of Ngāi Te Rangi iwi followed by afternoon tea.  It was great to have Shaan Kingi, Chair Tuapiro Marae there to translate for Jane.

What a lovely afternoon with much to share.  The beginning of Ambassador Connolly’s four-year term in Aotearoa and we envisage many more such engagements.

The 150 Year Anniversary of ‘The Ulster Plantation’ in 2025 was also discussed.
