An exciting opportunity opens up at Western Bay Museum for a Full Time Museum Qualified Collection Curator. Although a small regional museum, we are considered to be one of the most progressive museums in Aotearoa and our aspirations are to be ‘the best small museum in Aotearoa’. Our museum is bright, modern and has world class showcasing. We are located in the heart of Katikati, the gateway to the Bay of Plenty.
Although we excel in many areas we require a Collection Curator to lead and manage the collection. With assistance from Te Papa National Services Te Paerangi we have clear direction with our Museum Development Plan; the Collection Curator is our first major step.
At present every object has an object number and is mapped and tracked, providing an opportunity for a qualified Curator to set up best museum practice systems from the outset. We require, strong and proven leadership to manage the collection, to implement digital cataloguing and to initiate and facilitate all collection procedures.
We have a dynamic, high energy team of both paid, contract staff and a team of 70 volunteers some of which will assist the Curator. Museum Qualification is most important but being part of a tight team, superb people skills, and the desire to work as part of the team is also crucial.
