Collections Assistant

We have an opportunity for a new graduate or a more experienced museum collections professional for one year as a Collections Assistant. This is a contract role so you will be self-employed. We are located in the heart of Katikati, the gateway to the Bay of Plenty.
The Western Bay Museum is undertaking a project to rationalise its collection of about 11,000 objects which are inventoried but not catalogued. The Collections Curator and Museum Manager will assess the objects and make decisions about which to keep. The Collections Assistant will help the Collections Curator with the documentation of those that are retained. They will be photographed, catalogued onto eHive, located and packed.
Ideally you will have a Museum or Heritage qualification, object handling skills, and experience photographing objects. You will need to have a current driver’s license and your own vehicle.
